Message from Japanese family member Ms.Motoko Kibi

 

 Nice to meet you. I am Motoko Kibi, wife of Masao Kibi, a passenger who died on Japan Airlines Flight 123.
My husband was 45 years old at the time of the accident. Forty years have passed since then, and I am now 82, compared to the 42 years I was then. Our two children lost their father on Japan Airlines Flight 123.

I will never forget the shock and deep sadness of that day.

Well, I filed a lawsuit against Japan Airlines for disclosure of information, and fought the case for three years. My greatest supporters were lawyer Mr. Hiroshi Miyake and writer Ms. Tohko Aoyama.
I am truly grateful to these two. Ms. Aoyama in particular conducted research in Japanese and US public documents and university research institutes to answer my questions. The amount of research was enormous, and if the documents were stacked on a desk, they would be over two meters high. All of them were perfect arguments and theories.

Normally, we, the bereaved family, should have done this, but since I have had two surgeries and am elderly, Ms. Aoyama helped me. I submitted this as evidence to the court. Meanwhile, Japan Airlines submitted only two newspaper articles without providing any evidence. The newspaper articles were about the news that the bereaved families, including myself, had reached a settlement with JAL and Boeing. However, the cause of the crash remained unknown, which left me very dissatisfied.

In 2013, the Accident Investigation Committee released detailed documents that contained information that we, the bereaved families, did not know at the time. Furthermore, that same year, then Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone published a memoir. In the memoir, he wrote that "immediately after the crash of Japan Airlines Flight 123, there was no contact between Boeing and JAL, but the US military and the Self-Defense Forces were in contact." In other words, the excuse was that the cause of the accident was that the Self-Defense Forces and the US military in Japan were in contact, so the Prime Minister could not be involved. What we learned from this was that JAL and Boeing were not the cause of the crash. So my suspicions and the facts matched. Ms. Aoyama spent 10 years researching to gather the court documents.
All of her arguments are detailed in her 7 books. All the scientific data and theories are included. They are in Japanese, but you can read them yourself if you translate them into English.

Japan Airlines has released voice recorders from other accidents. However, they absolutely refuse to release the voice recorder from JAL Flight 123. This alone is strange. In official documents, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote "Crash incident" instead of "JAL Flight 123 crash." It was not an accident; it was an incident. Off the record, Japan's Minister of Transport told Aoyama, "Japan does whatever the US tells it to do, so the bereaved families who have doubts about the cause of the crash should have a reinvestigation." The Japanese Prime Minister wrote in his memoirs that "the Self-Defense Forces and the US military were in contact immediately after the crash." I had serious doubts about this alone, and went to court. In court, our evidence was ignored, and the verdict simply said, "Kibi has settled, so that's the end of it." It was clearly an unfair verdict. At the time of the settlement, I was unaware of the fact that the Self-Defense Forces and the US military had been in contact. A proper trial would have ordered the accident investigation committee to conduct a reinvestigation. However, the Japanese government has shamefully tried to force an end to the case.

The Japanese bereaved families' association I belonged to was split into two by Japan Airlines. One of the bereaved families, the one who questioned the cause of the accident, has all grown old and died, and only one other than me remains.

On the other hand, there are many bereaved families who have been appeased by Japan Airlines. I hope that you are not one of them. The current chairman of the bereaved families' association is also at the mercy of Japan Airlines. It's pathetic.

I believe that bereaved families, as bereaved families, have to act on their own.

If foreign bereaved families wish to remain in the dark, that's fine.

However, if you are a bereaved family member who questions the cause of the crash like me, it is most important that you demand a reinvestigation. I heard that in your country there is an association for the bereaved families of those killed in military shootings. I urge you to go and talk to them and take action yourself. Aoyama's seven books has already been proven as evidence. What's important for the bereaved is whether they have questions. It's important to think about what you want to do first. If you feel the same way as me, let's meet.

 

 

Message from Toko Aoyama

Japan's accident investigation committee has not attempted to recover the wreckage of the plane, which remains submerged in Sagami Bay. It has stated that it will not conduct a reinvestigation. In court, JAL argued that the issue was resolved because a settlement had been reached with Kibi, and the Supreme Court also rejected the request for disclosure of information. The raw data was returned to JAL, which is illegal.

However, the accident investigation committee is not listening. If the foreign surviving families file a lawsuit, there is a high possibility that the information will be disclosed. If the foreign surviving families were to file a lawsuit, it would have great social significance.

It is wrong for former Self-Defense Force members and former JAL employees to deny official documents made public in 2013 that state that "the force of a bullet hitting the vertical tail of Japan Airlines Flight 123 caused the plane to collapse."
